Today’s Reverb 10 Prompt: Moment. Pick one moment during which you felt most alive this year. Describe it in vivid detail (texture, smells, voices, noises, colors).
My moment was during Buddy “The Cake Boss” Valastro’s live show, Bakin’ with the Boss, which my family went to see last week as a birthday gift to my 12 year old son. I know you’re thinking, “This chick felt most alive at a Cake Boss show? That’s kinda pathetic.” Well it’s tough to think back over an entire year and pick the one exact moment you felt most alive. So I’m going with the most recent moment I can remember that made me feel like I was bursting with joy.
I sat in the golden hue of a hushed theater and listened to Buddy tell his personal story of growing up in Carlo’s bakery, his dad passing away when he was 17, and his commitment to making the bakery a household name. His is a wonderful story and the audience was under his charismatic spell. But my moment came when he was talking about his involvement with the Make A Wish Foundation and how he spent the day with a young girl whose dying wish was to make a cake with him. I was tearing up a little and I glanced over at my son.
I had to fight the urge to grab both my kids and smother them with hugs and kisses. How lucky am I to have these two amazing, healthy, happy children, each with their unique personalities and each bringing something completely different to my life? I sat quietly in my seat, a couple salty tears sliding down my cheek.
Yes, the Cake Boss made me feel alive. And proud. And fortunate. I can’t say enough good about this guy. He is entertaining, hard-working, committed to family, charitable, and humble, not to mention an amazingly talented baker. He makes an excellent role model for my son.

Got my Tweet on the big screen before the show!
“Mia Famiglia.”
Since the show was in NJ, Buddy’s whole family was in the audience.
Lots of interaction with the audience. Several people got on stage to decorate cupcakes with Buddy.

I love The Cake Boss because it is about family…hijinks, pranks and love for each other. Of course, the creative part of going throught he total making of those awesome cakes has something to do with it too!
How fun for your son and what a great message for them to hear. It would have been my choice for a birthday too.
