The weather is warming up and I’ve decided to get back into running. After last spring’s failed attempt, it is still my goal to run a half-marathon at some point in my life. There’s only one place I really like to run and as I returned to that trail last week, I thought I might vlog it.
So this is my first attempt at video blogging. I’ve been sitting on this for 5 days, deciding whether or not I was going to post it. Obviously I’ve decided to go ahead, but I’m still pretty squeamish because:
- I’m not used to seeing/hearing myself on video.
- I see my Mom’s face and my Dad’s facial expressions. Not that this is a bad thing, but it’s weird to me.
- I haz no video editing skillz.
- The video is unrehearsed, unlike a lot of vlogs I see that seem scripted and perfected.
- I’m neither bubbly nor funny.
But this is me.

way to go stepping out of your comfort zone, shan! I suspect the more you talk into the camera, more of your natural personality will shine. keep going, keep running!
(personally, I dont’ care for running. my exercise of choice is step. I love it, hate it at same time. kwim?)

Good for you…for the vlog (eekkk, I am so scared of that) and for returning to running. It feel so good…yet I have such a hard time getting myself out there…one day at a time, right? Thanks for stopping by my blog!

You did an awesome job. That is a beautiful trail.
I have taped a few different vlogs, but never gotten the courage to actually post one so you’re ahead of me.
As for the bubbly part, we all love you for YOU and I too think more of that is going to shine through as you get used to talking to the camera more.

Great post! Good for you… w/vlog & running. I just tried my first 5k on Saturday. Now I’m pumped to do more.
Visiting from SITS. (Can’t believe we are still up & in the top 5!!)
Oh, I am NOT a runner! I’m always a little amazed at people who are, so good for you!
(Stopping over from SITS — thanks for the tips on there!)
Wow. You are brave. And this was cool! Thanks for the great tips on SITS today!

I’m visiting from your SITS post! Great tips!
I love watching people’s first vlogs! Yay for doing this! I give you a lot of credit for both posting your first vlog as well as what you’re doing with getting back into running! I wish you the best of luck with your running. I know you will do well with it! Keep up the great work!

You did a great job on your first vlog. You’re a natural. I read your entry about cleaning out your blog too. I need and want to do that but, I think I’m going to have to find someone to help me out. If I try to do it myself at this point I’m afraid I’ll destroy the whole thing somehow. I’ve been trying to make and order online one of the blog books so in case I ever lose my blog I’ll have it in hard copy. No such luck. I can’t even get it to the point I can order it. Pathetic. But, I am persistent, so sooner or later I’ll get it done. In the meantime, cleaning it out would probably help. Thanks for the great tips!

This was very cool, and inspiring. I have thought I would love to do a video but haven’t known what to do. Now I see that it is really appealing just to see someone talk about herself and something that she cares about. I am so glad I came over from SITS Sharefest!

Saw your post on SITS and had to check out your first vlog!
I know how hard this is to do!!! It’s so scary, isn’t it? But you did it and you did it well and you are only bound to improve as you do it more often. I have a goal of FINALLY doing more YouTube videos this year but so far I’ve been too busy/afraid to add to my lonely video that I have now.
I think that sticking to being YOU is so important and, frankly, diversity is good. Not everyone is going to be bubbly or funny. Serious and honest are good qualities too!
Now, heading back over to your SITS post so I can comment there too and make sure I am up-to-date on my Spring cleaning!
Have a great weekend!

Well done. How long did it take you to do your vlog? I’m tempted to start doing them but think it takes longer than a regular blog post and those already take up a wee bit too much time!
Great vlog! For a first attempt, I can’t see anything wrong with it. Don’t know that the scripted ones are any better. It’s a time to mee you, SITSta! Keep it up. And, come visit when you can.

good for you! The idea of a 3 and 1/2 mile WALK sounds daunting to me, much less a run of that distance! You’re smart to get in shape now while you are young. At 65, overweight and out of shape, I envy you!
Just stopped by from SITS to say hi; hope you will find time to do the same.

Wow! I have done some video tutorials, but never thought about actually blogging on video! You did awesome and I want to commend you for running. I am not a runner but I do enjoy walking. Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest (a little late because I have been out of town)
That seems like a really nice place to run. It reminds me of a place near my home called Thompson Park. Good for you about getting back into running. I run all around New York City, even though its really busy there are some great parks especially near the rivers. I run a real estate website called NYCrentals, and its a great release during the day to be able to run.
I think it’s wonderful that you did the vlog. I haven’t done one yet, nervous about doing a vlog for many of the reasons that you listed!
What a lovely place to walk/run. I can see why you have a special affinity for the trail. By the way, you have lovely eyes and I noticed that you can do the one eye brow lift too. My husband teases me, because I do that and he can’t. Lol. (I think he’s jealous that he can’t…)

This is great!! I am trying to get back into running myself. It is so hard to get out there and just do it, although when I do I always feel so good about myself and so high. Best of luck on this – you have a gorgeous place to run!!

Hey Shannon,
Awesome first video blog – it was really great!!! Congrats on the running thing too. There’s nothing quite like running on trails, I totally agree and who cares how fast/slow you are, just be proud that you’re doing it! You’re out there! Whooo hoooo.
