Things I Want to Remember

by Shannon on 6.18.07

5-8-07dirtyMy daughter is at that awesome, yet challenging, age of nearly 3 years old, and I want to remember some of the adorable, strange, and frustrating things she says and does.

  • She loves to get dirty. Any food or dirt she can smear all over herself makes her happy. Especially sand, mashed potatoes and peanut butter.
  • She sleeps with her pillow under her back, not her head. It looks so uncomfortable the way she is arched over the pillow, but apparently she likes it.
  • One night when our power went out she woke up in the pitch black and said, “Mommy! My eyes won’t open!”
  • She calls McDonald’s “Old McDonald’s.”
  • She disagrees with nearly everything her brother says to her. When he tells her she is a good girl, she yells, “No, I’m NOT a good girl!”
  • When I ask her “Do you understand?” she says “NO!” This is particular frustrating when I am trying to discipline — she makes it tough not to laugh.
  • Her favorite word right now is “stupid,” thanks to her brother.

Your post and the photo are for anyone who thinks kids don’t come out as themselves, with a bunch of “huh”? quirks that make sense only to them. So much for Rousseau et al….!

My wife and I have a 4 year old boy. He’s incredibly loving. He does have his moments though, especially when it’s discipline time. He’ll say something in response and I’ll ask him what he said, and he’ll respond back with, “I’m talkin’ to myself!”

It’s hard not to laugh.

Old McDonald! LOL maybe that’s in the Kid’s Code Book because that is what my ds calls it too!
